The small town of Groveland, California is best known as The Gateway to Yosemite National Park, but on your down time from sightseeing in the park there is a lot to see and do around town!
Join Yoga Master Instructor Cherie Newman on a journey that will nourish your body, mind, and soul. This incredible opportunity of becoming one with nature will introduce you to the history of Vinyasa Flow Yoga while practicing the movements. Experience the breathtaking beauty of Yosemite atop an 8,760 foot (2670 m.) dome in the park's Tuolumne Meadows area while exploring your inner peace.
This adventure will begin with a short interpretive hike to the summit, where Cherie will lead a Yoga talk on the history of the Vinyasa Flow and breathing techniques. She will lead you through the postures that will join your soul and body with the joys of Mother Nature. You will then have a short return walk through the meadow to complete this peaceful outing. The Yoga portion of this class will be held on a durable granite surface.

Embark on a journey of self discovery during this experience that will test your personal boundaries in some of the most demanding terrain in Yosemite. Panoramic views are as incomparable as the sense of achievement you will feel upon completion of these uber hikes. Typical Strenuous Hikes would include trails to Waterwheel Falls, El Capitan, Clouds Rest, & Half Dome summit attempts. These advanced tours encounter steep elevation gains and are for adventure travelers with extensive hiking experience and/or physical training. Each participant must seriously train for these tours. Expect to hike over fifteen miles with elevation gains of 3000 to 5000 feet (915 to 1524 m.). Tours will last seven to ten hours with the Half Dome Hike potentially lasting longer.

The winter months offer exclusive opportunities to enjoy Yosemite's trails from a truly different perspective on a pair of snowshoes. These outings explore lesser known trails and will be conducted as hikes if we do not have a sufficient amount of snow in the area. Discounts are applied when more than one person joins this tour.

Try our bike rentals. Explore the bike trails that lay behind the Mary Laveroni park or cruise through downtown Groveland and see the historic town on two wheels. If you're feeling daring you can take a high speed ride down Wards Ferry Road, the fun part is going down, coming back up is a little more challenging! All hostel guests get $5 off daily rentals.
Right behind our hostel is a relaxing outdoor area to rest your feet after a long day of exploring, complete with historic barn and the small seasonal Garrote creek where '49er' prospectors once panned for gold. In fact, many goods in town were purchased with pinches of gold dust back in the day.
Originally named Garrote (pronounced "gah-row-tee" to this day by locals), Groveland's roots date back to the California Gold Rush. Take a stroll through our historic town and discover some of the favorite local hangouts.
Groveland is home to California's oldest saloon; The Iron Door. The walls of the saloon are covered in photos of how Groveland and Yosemite have evolved over the years. Sit down and enjoy some laughs and delicious drinks from owner and bartender, Chris.
Stop by the lovely Mary Laveroni Community Park. The park is full of picnic tables, with hiking and biking trails that branch away from town.
Adjacent to Mary Lavaroni Park is the Yosemite Gateway Museum. They have many displays and scale models depicting the places and the native and pioneer peoples that shaped life in the Motherlode over the last two centuries. In addition, they also provide a free printed walking tour of our historic little town.
For those hot summer days, a favorite the local swimming hot spot, Rainbow Pool, is just a short drive away. The swimming hole is fed by the south fork of the Tuolumne River, which fills the pool via a 15 foot (4.5 meter) waterfall. With the surrounding granite boulders ranging from 5 to 30 foot high (1.5 to 9 meters), jumping into the pool popular activity.
